Crude steel production fell by 8.7% year-on-year in May

According to World Steel Association data, in May 2020,64 countries included in the World Iron and Steel Association statistics of crude steel production of 148.8 million tons, a decrease of 8.7%. Among them, in May 2020, China’s crude steel production was 92.3 million tons, an increase of 4.2 percent over the same period last year; Japan’s crude steel production was 5.9 million tons, down 31.8 percent from the same period last year; India’s crude steel production was 5.8 million tons, down 39.1 percent from the same period last year; and South Korea’s crude steel production was 5.4 million tons, down 14.1 percent from the same period last year. In the EU region, crude steel production was estimated at 10.5 million tons in May 2020, down 26.8 percent from a year earlier. In the United States, crude steel production in May 2020 was 4.8 million tons, down 36.6% from a year earlier. In the CIS region, crude steel production in May 2020 was estimated at 8.2 million tons, down 7.6 percent from the same period last year; in Ukraine, crude steel production in May 2020 was 1.6 million tons, down 10.4 percent from the same period last year. In Brazil, crude steel production in May 2020 was 2.2 million tons, down 22.6 percent from a year earlier. Turkey, the output of 5 crude steel in 2020 is 2.3 million tons, down 25.8% from the same period last year.
